How Do Water and Juice Fasting Differ?

By: Foras Aje

Although they are more or less both highly effective forms of fasting, water and juice fasting do have their slight differences. Consequently, they both should be approached with preparation for each type for optimal success.

Though fasting is by far a greater cure of our ills-both physical and mental-than all of the drugs of the medical fraternity combined, for weight loss or for anything it may be used for, one has to be aware of certain criteria to achieve success with its use.

These include the types of fasts one can use, how long to fast, when to fast and how to come off of a fast.

During a water fast, only water is consumed. During a juice fast, any variety of fruit and vegetable juices are consumed.

People detoxify and heal more quickly with a water fast than with a juice fast.

This is because with a water fasting program, your digestive passageway and organs are able to rest completely, allowing for all of your energy to be used for cleansing and repair of damaged tissues.

With a juice fast or a cleansing diet of fruits and vegetables, your body must use energy to digest nutrients, leaving less available energy for detoxification and healing.

Another significant difference is that more fat tissue is burned during a water fasting program, as your body must rely exclusively on fat reserves to supply its energy needs after the first 1-3 days of water fasting.

Furthermore, a water fasting program is most effective when you are able to get a lot of physical and emotional rest. If your life circumstances don't allow this, juice fasting is a better choice.

Nonetheless, to make a juice fast almost (or if not more effective) you could try these tips.
-Masticate the juice as thoroughly as possible.
-Have brief 2-3 second pauses between each gulp of juice.
-Try not to drink more than 2 quarts of juice and its best to drink it all at one time, preferably in the morning so an hour or so afterwards, the stomach is empty and consequently resting.

Well, here are the benefits and differences outlined for you, all in all, I cant say to much of the importance of the occasional fast except once you try it successfully, you will see why it is so highly esteemed.
